A mystery is solved......finally
Back in the day, I was a huge Pearl Jam fan. And of all of their songs, quite possibly my favorite was a song called Yellow Ledbetter. The guitar work in the song is pure beauty. It's soft and mellow and the melody makes me feel all happy inside. And Eddie Vedder's voice blends well with it as he sings about...well...that's the problem.
Eddie mumbles most of the lyrics and I've never quite been able to figure out what all of the words are. Sure, I've managed to figure out a few lines here and there, but the whole song, not a chance. To this day I still have no idea what the song is about, and it's not like the song's title is a big help. Yellow Ledbetter? What the fuck does that mean?
Then I saw the above video, and it all makes sense now. I don't know who put this video together, but they are absolute geniuses. I know know what all of the lyrics to this song are now. Thank you, kind strangers, for solving this particular life mystery for me.
So this is why I pay so much to live here.
Then days like today happen. Today it was really hot, so on my way home from work I decided to go to the beach and go surfing. I went home, changed, then headed to the beach. It's about a 20 minute drive to the beach from my house (in California, everything is a 20 minute drive away, no matter how near or far away you're going, it's sort of a weird law of physics here).
I got to the beach about an hour before sundown and was able to surf as the sun started to set. The water was a little colder than usual, but I was still able to go in without a wetsuit. After surfing, I headed home, changed again, then I decided to go get a sandwhich from the really awesome pizza place across the street from my house. The sun had gone down, but it was still really warm out, so I grabbed my bike and rode over to the bank, got cash, and then went and got food.
As I was riding home through the warm evening air, with salt still on my skin and in my hair from the ocean, I was suddenly reminded why the hell it costs so much to live here. Here it is, the day before October starts. It's been officially autumn for over a week now, and I can still go to the beach and then ride my bike to go get dinner. Most of the country has already started getting ready for winter, and I'm still acting like it's July.
I need days like this to remind me why I live where I do. I love that I can do stuff like this. I love the fact that as I type this, I have the sliding door to the patio open and a fan is blowing in air from outside.
Someday I'm sure that I'll want a house more than I will want this other stuff. And on that day I will finally decide to move out of California for good. But that day hasn't come yet. In the meantime, I'm going to go pour myself a glass of wine and go sit out on my patio.

Seriously messed up, but awesome
I just went back and beat the Force Unleashed for the second time, and this time through I chose to go for the dark side ending...and man is it ever messed up.
If you don't ever plan on playing the game, you can see the above video which shows the cutscene you get to see after you've killed Darth Vader.
Fucked up, but awesome. I love it.
Man, why couldn't the prequel films have been this good?
Fringe Kinda Sucks
The bigger story arc of The Pattern is vaguely interesting, so the show has potential, but at the rate it's going it's going to take too long to get there.
I really am hoping the show gets better. But I guess I'll have to wait and see.
Meanwhile, I'm frickin' addicted to the Sarah Connor Chronicles. That show is soooooooo damn good. And now Shirley Manson (the hottest woman of all time) is on the show. And she's a T-1000. I'm totally hooked.

Oh my God, I'm so fucking old. I just found out that Nirvana's album Nevermind came out exactly 17 years ago today. I think that's long enough now to technically call it classic rock.
That album and Pearl Jam's Ten were definitive life changing albums for me. They introduced me to punk and to rock music in general. Before them, I'm ashamed to say I listened to pop music.
I was only 13 when Nevermind came out. I couldn't even imagine my life today without having had it open my mind to all sorts of new music.
I haven't actually listened to the album in years. Perhaps I'll have to give it a good listen later today. In the meantime though, I'm going to go feel old for a bit

The Force Unleashed
I just got what is probably the best part of the hidden stuff though. The purple lightsaber. I don't know why I love the purple lightsaber so much, but I do...a lot. Maybe it's because Sam Jackson was the only Jedi in the Star Wars movies to have it, and his handle probably said Bad Ass Motherfucker on it.
But I've always loved the color purple though. Maybe my love of The Joker growing up is to blame for that. He always had some rad purple suit on.
Whatever the reason though, I just unlocked the purple lightsaber in the game and now all of the other lightsaber colors can go to hell. I only need the bad ass motherfucker color.
Now you'll have to excuse me. It's time to get back to whooping stormtroopers.
Batman is everywhere nowadays
Episode I - The New Blog
This is my first post, and already only ten words in, it's pretty lame. But you should come to expect that. Afterall, this is me we're talking about here. And try as I might, my life isn't all that interesting. I'm not a superspy or anything. I don't go galavanting around the world exploring ancient ruins, I'm not some famous celebrity on the cover of magazines, nor am I a doctor or a scientist or any other cool thing like that.
I jockey a desk, in a cubicle, looking at excel spreadsheets all day. Woo-fricking-hoo, am I right? The excitement never stops in my world.
However, I do pride myself on being a geek, and on having a passing ability at writing random thoughts as they enter my head. Which is what this blog is for really. It's somewhere for me to jot down the random things I see in the world. I have all these amusing thoughts and anecdotes I'm always thinking, yet rarely do I ever share them with others. Did you ever notice how your most witty thoughts usually happen when no one is around to share them with? I hate that.
Thus the creation of this blog. Hopefully, I'll be somewhere near a computer when my wit decides to kick in.
So, without further ado, let us begin. Blogging world, here I come.
